Eyes open at the alarm and a rush of adrenalin tells me my dreams weren't deceiving me. I am in Geneva bout to tackle the Route d'Alpes. The hardest road between Geneva and Nice over some of the hardest and longest climbs in France.
Can I do this, no idea. Will it be hard, yes. Will we face hard times, absolutely yes. Will it be one of the best experiences of my life... 100% YES !! Bring it on !!!!
After a breakfast of granola, yogurt, juice and fruit we set off from the BnB. But first of all we had a very important mission. Taking a dip into Lake Geneva, which meant lying by the dock and placing a hand in, you didn't think we were going to jump in did you !!! The route took us south and about 5 miles on we said au revoir to Switzerland and Bonjour to France.
We had a few stops on the first mini col called Col Du Mont Sion which was not hard and a little taste of what was to come over the next few days. It rose to just over 2,500 feet. We started the day in Geneva at 1,250 so it was only a 1,250 climb.
Passed over the beautiful bridge and gorge at Pont de la Caille.
Next up, a nice little drop into the gorgeous town of Annecy. This was the scene of a terrible knife attack about 2 months before. It's a shock to see such a beautiful tourist spot and imagine what went on there not long ago.
This part was something I really was looking forward to, we now had to follow the west coast of Lake Annecy on a fantastic cycle path. Cal researched a place to eat and it was an absolutely amazing cycling cafe. Not far further on we found a bike shop and restocked the CO2 we had been missing. Phew, I could relax a bit now knowing we had these emergency stocks on board.
We also went through a tunnel and heard a busker making some gorgeous sounds... Cal filmed it..
Pictures from me and Cal. xxXXXXxx Hope you enjoy them.
